The Concept

When I was young, I loved Roald Dahl books. I remember being captivated by the mysterious and imaginative nature of his stories. I immersed myself in them and felt like I became the characters: imagining I could move objects with my mind, like Matilda, or that I’d found the golden ticket, like Charlie!

For my designs, I wanted to capture the idea of being transported by a story. I chose three of his books about animals and used hand-illustration to make the covers come alive. When a child holds a book up to their face, the cover acts as a mask and in our eyes, they become the fox, the crocodile, or the giraffe. The books are also packaged with a title sleeve, revealing something unexpected once removed.
